Delicious Scallion Pancakes on the Grill

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • Pinch of salt

Filling Ingredients

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ vegetable oil + 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of five-spice powder
  • 1 cup of chopped green onions (roughly one bunch)

Dipping Sauce Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Crushed red pepper flakes to taste

    Dough Instructions

    2. Gradually add the water, beginning with the boiling water and then the cold water. As you pour, stir the mixture in circular motions with chopsticks or a fork. The dough will slowly come together in a cohesive ball.
    3. Once all water is incorporated and the dough has formed a ball, transfer it to a clean, well-floured surface and knead it for 5 minutes to create a smooth, elastic texture.
    4. Allow the dough to rest, covered in the fridge while preparing the filling.

    Filling Instructions

    1. Prepare the green onions by slicing them vertically down the middle, then dicing them into delicate pieces. This allows the scallions to add optimal flavor to the pancakes.
    2. In a heat-safe bowl, combine the flour, scallions, salt, and five-spice powder, creating a tantalizing blend of savory and aromatic flavors.

    4. Carefully roll the dough from top to bottom, forming a snug, long log shape before spiraling it gently into a coil. This method creates plenty of delicious, flakey layers.
    5. Let the spiral rest in the fridge, while repeating the process for the remaining dough balls.
    6. Once chilled and firm, roll each spiral into a large pancake shape, approximately 7 inches wide.

    Cooking Instructions for Scallion Pancakes on the Grill

    1. Preheat the grill to high heat.
